John Read Gainsford plays piano.
In 2021 a student alleged improper sexual behavior by Gainsford. The ensuing investigation by Florida State University substantiated that Gainsford had improper sexual relationships with multiple students. FSU found that even though he did not instruct them, a conflict of interest existed due to the power imbalance in the relationship and updated its sexual misconduct policy as a result. As of 2025 Gainsford is listed on FSU’s faculty page.
