Jonathan Grieves-Smith

Jonathan Grieves-Smith is a conductor and director.

In 2020 acclaimed choral conductor Jonathan Grieves-Smith, also known as Jonathan Smith, was sentenced to 24 years in jail for child rape. He was convicted of 16 counts of historical sex offenses beginning in the 1980s when his victim was five years old, during his tenure as music director of Brighton Festival Chorus. He was charged with the offenses in 2015 and in 2019 he was extradited from Australia to the UK for the trial. He continued to work with Melbourne choirs the Hamer Singers and Hallelujah Junction in the interim.
