Malcolm Layfield plays violin.
Malcolm Layfield resigned from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in 2013, one week after being publicly accused of sexual misconduct. While he was ultimately cleared of rape charges, Layfield admitted in court to having “shameful” and “regretful” consensual relationships with students as young as 17. According to a report in The Guardian, the RNCM had known about staff complaints regarding Layfield’s behavior since 2002 but had hired him as Head of Strings regardless.
